Sitemeter bug brings down Tons of Sites for Internet Explorer users

Tons of website currently running Sitemeter as their analytics service have gone down.Sitemeter is a popular free analytics service used by many sites. The bug currently affects only users of IE 5.5,IE 6 and IE 7.Whereas the websites are shown correctly in firefox , opera and safari.Even the Sitemeter site which uses its own stats have gone down.

Sitemeter Internet Explorer Bug

In Internet Explorer the site is loaded first ,wasting a lot of user time and then a error message appears and you have only one option i.e to click Ok.If you click ok ,then the whole site goes away.

If your site has been affected then it is recommended to remove the sitemeter code temporarily. Also keep updated with the Sitemeter’s blog at weblog.sitemeter.com for futher updates.
