AVG Free Edition 8.0 Released

AVG Free AntivirusThe very popular AVG antivirus from Grisoft has rolled out the freeware version of its latest AVG 8.0 Professional. The latest version many new features that includes a major change in look and layout, included Free Anti Spyware and Safe Search.

The installation was quite easy like the previous versions. After the installation there was the first Run Dialog box. Then I was taken to the UCP(user control panel). The UCP was quite pretty and had a decent look rather than the old 98 like look of the previous versions. The messages also pop out from the taskbar.

The Anti Spyware is installed as an essential component and could not be disabled. You can disable the link scanner if you are on a low speed internet connection (like mine :P).

The freeware version (for sure) has many limitations in comparision to the paid versions. There is no technical support available and only limited languages are supported. You can not use the software for commercial uses. The freeware can also not provide protection to servers. The free edition also lacks a Anti-Rootkit , Anti-Spam , Firewall , Safe-Downloads , Safe IM and Safe Surf.

AVG free antivirus is good for home use if you dont need a lot of security. But if you need than you shall consider buying the paid version and its worth paying :D .

You may download the Free Version from here. Or purchase the paid version from here

I am starting to dislike AVG because of their continuous and near-aggressive “upgrade to AVG internet security” policy. Avast! and AntiVir are as good (rather better) and don’t pester you to use their paid products.

And this integration of antispyware is not good (all the above have now antispyware), I would rather use a separate antivirus and antispyware.

the AVG guys are now more asking to buy the paid version :P
but they hav not degraded the quality of the free version :P
yeah the anti spyware is a crap :D
I tried disabling it but cudnt and am now finding a way to do so :D
I had previously bad experiences with Avast therefore I stopped using it :P

AVG Free 8.0 slowed my XP PC right down so I went back to 7.5 as that runs fine, which I will use until such time as it is not updated anymore, then will get rid of AVG and try a different antivirus program. Are you listening AVG?
