Windows XP SP3 launch delayed !

MicrosoftMicrosoft has made a decision to not release Windows XP SP3 to Windows Update and Download Center as pre planned to be released on 29th April because of a last minute compatibility issue with a Microsoft application Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System.

Although the link we provided for SP3 before the release date still works.

Moderators at Technet Forum comment :-

In the last few days, we have uncovered a compatibility issue between Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System (RMS) and Windows XP SP3 and Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1). Microsoft Dynamics RMS is a retail chain management solution for small and midsize customers.

In order to make sure customers have the best possible experience we have decided to delay releasing Windows XP SP3 to Windows Update and Microsoft Download Center.

To help protect our customers, we plan to put filtering in place shortly to prevent Windows Update from offering both service packs to systems running Microsoft Dynamics RMS. Once filtering is in place, we expect to release Windows XP SP3 to Windows Update and Download Center.

Until we have published a fix for this issue, we advise Microsoft Dynamics RMS customers to not install either service pack.  Microsoft Dynamics RMS customers running Windows XP SP3 or Windows Vista SP1 should contact Microsoft Customer Support Services for additional information.

The fix is currently in testing and will be available as soon as that process is complete.

Have a Nice Day and Enjoy! :)

Microsoft Cuts Xbox 360 Prices in Asia

Microsoft Xbox 360Microsoft in order to battle up its rival Sony’s Play Station 3 and Ninetendo’s Wii has brought down the prices of its Xbox 360 in Asia. The prices have been reduced from 5 to 20 percent in four areas throughout the region.

The price of the 20GB model was cut 17 percent in Taiwan, 10.7 percent in Hong Kong, and 5 percent in South Korea. The steepest reduction was made in Singapore, where that version of the gaming console dropped 19.5 percent and the company cut the price of two other models: The 120GB Elite was reduced 12.5 percent and the Arcade, which has no hard drive, was cut by 13 percent.

At the same time, Sony went in the opposite direction in Singapore and raised prices for its 40GB PlayStation 3 to $394. Nintendo, for its part, said late last week that it had no plans to cut prices on either the Wii console or its DS handheld in any regions.

Microsoft Grants Mobile Software Licenses Patents to Beijing Komoxo

MicrosoftMicrosoft and Beijing Komoxo Mobile Software today declared a patent licensing agreement on text-input technologies for mobile devices. The licensed patents allow Komoxo to integrate Microsoft’s statistical language modeling methods into its next-generation text-input engine for reduced keypad and touch-screen devices, and deliver new mobile innovations to consumers around the world.

Komoxo specializes in multilingual comprehensive text technologies for mobile devices. The company provides a third-generation mobile text-input engine that supports about 40 languages, as well as a text-output engine called ScriptEasy for multilingual editing, laying out, rendering and scaling of text. Komoxo’s biggest customers in China include Lenovo Mobile Communication Technology Ltd., Haier Group, Hisense, Benephon, TCL Corp., Mediatek Inc., Spreadtrum Communications Inc. and Datang Mobile Communications Equipment Co. Ltd.

Through the agreement, Microsoft’s patented technology would be used in Komoxo’s innovative text-input solution to improve appropriate word recommendations and selections during texting and to enhance spell-checking features for mobile devices. For example, many mobile devices combine text and numeric input keys onto one keypad. The technology being licensed by Komoxo will enable devices using the technology to recognize and recommend words faster and with more accuracy based on individual user experience. This new-generation text-input solution will significantly improve the text-input consumer experience, especially for one- hand text input in mobile scenarios on growing popular “reduced” keypad and touch-screen mobile devices.

This patent licensing agreement is the first of its kind between Microsoft and a China-based company and a testament to both the quality of Microsoft’s patent portfolio and its commitment to working with China-based companies. The agreement will accelerate research and development, foster greater technology collaboration, and enhance Komoxo’s value proposition to its customers based in China and around the world.

Horacio Gutierrez, vice president of Intellectual Property (IP) and Licensing at Microsoft quotes :-

We are pleased that Komoxo has chosen the advanced text-input technologies developed at Microsoft Research to expand its offerings around the world. We believe this agreement is a shining example of our commitment to enhancing consumer experience through IP collaboration and an important step in working more collaboratively with companies in China to help develop a more vibrant IT industry.
